Movie Reviews

Nana

I have heard about this movie a long time ago but never really understand what it was about, I was browsing through mysoju the other day and stumbled into this movie.

It was not what I expected (I expected another typical Japanese love story), it was very down to earth and realistic and the themes were clear. It was about life. Everyone will have something to ponder on after watching this, the movie speaks for itself.

I especially liked the part where the main character Nana Osaki came about in Hachi’s life, revealing that being ignorant and weak is a crime. Some may think that its natural for them to be protected and always depend on others to help due to their weak characteristics, but it is not that way. It is almost pathetic. Everyone needs to stand up on their on feet no matter how weak they may feel they are.

4 stars.

Nana 2

I did not stop after Nana, and went full throttle for Nana 2. It was not a disappointment to me, as it was to many. I was unhappy about the fact that they changed the actor featuring Hachi and Ren in the first movie but all in all it was great, for me.

This sequel brings stronger messages and portrays the weaknesses of human more directly. The choices are in our hands, if we are weak and go on for something that we did not really want it usually brings forlorn and hurt to more people and in the context of this movie, its romance.

In the end of the story, more than love is distorted. Friendship, loyalty, pride and faith are put into test, and we have every right to feel upset in the end.

But sad stories about the weaknesses of mankind have its own way of getting into the deepest part of your heart and soul. Instead of asking why they were so stupid, ask us. Movies are replicas of the real living. Fortunately, it’s never the end after we did something like that. Turn back. No matter how hard it may be. The world is more accepting than you think.

4 stars.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian: The Return To Narnia

I have trouble understanding the story. I haven’t really been through the books. I have very vague recollection of the story from childhood reading and it was not very helpful.

I wanted to understand more, so I browsed through the web for more information. I was more confused after reading the history about how the books came about and what people thought about the books and really, there are so many aspects they are arguing about. Seriously, these stories are meant for children! I will get my hands on a copy soon and I will update my opinions…

4 and a half stars.

Bridge to Terabithia

This movie, I watched especially due to the fact that people mentioned that it has something to do with Narnia. And wow, the only connection was like they mentioned the name of the book in the movie like, once?

Okay, this movie earns its thumb ups by being really simple and boring even and yet, they managed to get the message across. Its bold, its adventurous, its wild. When I mention wild, I meant, let your imaginations run wild! Not particularly practical since the world we are living in really ain’t what we can use our imagination to cover up, the problems still lies there.

But, if we aren’t like the children in the stories, being naïve and put in all their faith by simply believing when situations are meek, we won make it up there.

3 and a half stars.

The Spiderwick Chronicles

Haha, okay, this one is a light one. I find myself more concentrating on the illustrations and the buildings and colours than the plot.

It’s something light and cheerful and fantasy-like and enchanted and English and fairy-tale-like and mysterious and … u get the idea.

27 Dresses, Over Her Dead Body, What Happened in Las Vegas

Hmmm, by the way I put the three names together, it means I really don feel like elaborating about them. I am so quitting romantic flicks. Even though the guys are really good looking and the girls really sweet and everything.
